Age appropriate games allow children to be successful. When playing age appropriate games children are challenged but not frustrated. When children feel successful at playing games this leads to greater engagement. Most of the time when children are engaged in game play there are fewer problems on the playground.
Age appropriate games are designed for quick entry and exit, so that more children have an opportunity to play, and fewer children are waiting in line. An example of this is “no do-overs”. When children make a mistake they sometimes call out “I want a do-over,” this is an example of one person wanting to play longer and requires other children to wait in line longer. This is not recommended.
Another important game rule is “You can’t say, You can’t play.” This means that everyone can play the game of their choosing and cannot be turned away.
