The Rules of the Red Rubber Ball
An article in the Playground Professionals Newsletter introduced me to Kevin Carroll. I’m not sure why our paths have not crossed as we both see the importance of play and have been Advocates for Play for many years.
Kevin’s book, The Rules of the Red Rubber Ball talks about the importance of play and they contribution it made to his life and happiness. It is important as educators to remember that recess, sports and physical education are the elements of school that are the reason for attending for many students. This connection to school is rarely about academics, grades and learning but rather friends, clubs, and activities that students enjoy. Mr. Carroll find out in elementary school that although he was small he was sought after for recess games and sports due to his athletic abilities.
