How are schools succeeding in fighting the spread of the coronavirus? Dr. Joshua Sharfstein at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health says we can learn from the YMCA and New York City examples, but we shouldn’t overgeneralize about how they dealt with Covid-19.  He continues to identify strategies that are currently being used in child care centers and schools including: — hand-washing, masks, temperature checks, pods, social distancing, and guidelines about staying home if sick.

You may we asking yourself which are the most important?  According to the CDC frequent hand-washing, masks, temperature checks and social distancing are needed.

One of the most difficult situations schools face in reducing the spread of the coronavirus  is smaller class sizes.  Smaller classes sizes in most places means a hybrid form of instructions where students combine distancing learning and in class attendance.

So how important is class size?  According to Dr. Sharfstein,  We don’t know.  Prioritizing schools, he adds, means doing lots of research on children and the coronavirus as soon as possible to inform the right policies to put in place.
