Below are samples of three the national radio shows conducted with Dr. Melinda Bossenmeyer from 2001-2011.

The Radio Disney show was part of the Backyard Radio Show. It covered the topic of Playground Safety: An interview with Melinda Bossenmeyer, Ed.D.

The second show discussed the “spread of bullying”. The radio host, Terry Phillips was from KVPR FM.

The final two-part show was a PBS interview on “These Days” in 2001. The host of the PBS station was Tom Fudge in San Diego, CA. He interviewed her on “It’s a new world of play for today’s kids? They explored but is it a better one?”

In recent years, an effort to pass laws mandating school recess for elementary school-age students has picked up steam largely as a result of parent advocates who believe school recess plays an important role in their child’s well-being.

A big part of restoring recess lies in the need to improve recess and how it functions. There is much we can do about the conflicts or boredom that can lead to fights and arguments that spill over into a classroom and impact instructional time.
