East Street School Returns to NEW Painted Playground Markings
East Street staff and students are returning to school this year and they will be welcomed with a new, colorful, fun painted playground markings.
The school is implementing the Peaceful Playgrounds Program. It is based on the concept that several well-marked, colorfully designed markings will increase motivation for students to participate in activities.
Thomas Welch, East Street Principal, explained, “With the support of the PTO we will be introducing the Peaceful Playgrounds Program this year.
Students will be exposed to a variety of pre-planned painted playground markings and activities which add games to the schoolyard.
“Playground games offer opportunities for students to remain active and learn how to play cooperatively with one another.” Thomas Welch, Principal.
Some of the popular painted game markings that East Street staff added are hopscotch, 4 square, number grids, alphabet grids, ball hopscotch, bean bag toss, and a multi-use circle to name a few.
PE class K students in room 110 at East Street School were learning about the peaceful playground games. An example of some of the painted games is the alphabet grid lesson was PE Teacher Leslee Sharon.
